Prego Update

Oh, things are really getting to be fun now! Once I get through that dreaded first trimester, I absolutely LOVE being pregnant. And I am definitely in the funnest time of it all- when you feel the baby move, but the kicks aren't forcing you to pee NOW yet; the anticipation of that incredible peek at your child, the 20 week ultrasound; the knowledge that, with luck, you will know the gender of your baby soon.

But this time, it is all that much sweeter for us, as HL and AW are just as excited as we are! It was neat being pregnant with a two year old in the house, but it is pure bliss with a six year old. He understands what is happening, and asks me regularly "how big is the baby now?" So each week we, the boys and I, check online to see about what size the baby is and what is happening in its' development. At HL's request, I scheduled my last appt later in the day so he could join us and hear the heartbeat. And I had to arrange for the ultrasound to take place when HL could be there- he is almost as anxious as I am!

I also told him the other day that Daddy could feel the baby move- but only by being very patient and pressing ever so slightly.
"REALLY?!? Daddy could feel the baby? I want to feel it! Can I?" So we are awaiting a time when the baby is active enough for him to maybe feel it.

Being pregnant with these two boys in the house has made it fresh again, as though we are experiencing this for the first time together.

This, I think, is the best part of being around children; they make all of life so much more enjoyable when you get to look at it through the wonderment of their young eyes.

Global Warming

A friend of mine was concerned that the children's pastor at a church we visit made irrelevant comments about global warming on Sunday. So, I asked HL if it was true. He couldn't remember what was said, but did recall the subject being brought up. This sparked a conversation, and I quizzed him a little to see what he new of the subject...

When asked what global warming is, he responded that "it is the earth getting h-o-t."

"And do you know what is causing it?", I asked

"That all our trees are being cut down, the absence of clouds and the buildup of greenhouse gases."

I was speechless. Never did I expect my 6 year old son to offer such an explanation.

Where does he get this stuff?!?

Update: He tells me that he learned on a Discovery channel show. Yes, he watches TV, but things like this allow me to justify it! ;)

The Baby

As of yesterday, I am now 15 weeks pregnant and feel confident enough to say that I am out of the miscarriage window. Phew! I did have a couple scares, but I fortunately have a very caring OB/Gyn who is always happy to reassure me by either ultrasound or listening to the heartbeat. Which, by the way, I got to hear just last Friday. I LOVE that sound, I tell ya.

Having great connections in the medical imaging field (my MIL does MRIs), I was able to have a 13-week ultrasound in which it was predicted that I am carrying a girl. I am not convinced yet, though. While I will be thrilled with either gender, if I allow myself to get my heart set on one or the other and then learn otherwise later, I will have a difficult time. So, I continue to wonder....

AW, on the other hand, has absolutely no doubt about it. In fact, way back in April he predicted that I would have a baby girl. He said God told him so. And now, he hesitates not a wink when he tells people he will be getting a baby sister. According to him, God has again told him it would be a girl. Not only does he say he is having a sister, he also has her named... Ella. Not a bad name, I say. And, the more I hear it, the more I like it. Hubby is not so sold yet. He insists on meeting the baby before choosing a name. And I can certainly understand that as well.

I'm Baaacckkk!!

Hey, hey, hey! Can ya believe it?!? I'm actually writing a new post....

So, this pregnancy- yes I am STILL pregnant!- has really taken its toll during the first trimester. Yes, I was nauseous, but that was something I could work with. It was the absolute, utter exhaustion and fatigue that knocked me on my butt. It stems from a combination of things; being older, regular pregnancy tiredness, depression, lack of depression meds, lack of caffeine- all bundled up together. But, I am happy to say that I seem to be on the tail end of that and am actually doing housework today. Whoa. This is a momentous day.

Anyway, thanks everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and calls during my blog absence- they were much appreciated! Even though I didn't have the energy to return most... Thanks also for your understanding. :)
