On the Ice

Two weeks ago, we went by an outdoor ice rink that HL really wanted to try. Because we couldn't skate that day, we promised to take him a week later. Since we should keep our word to our kids, we took HL for his first skating venture last Saturday. While it was great fun, it was also quite a struggle. They did not have double bladed skates for HL to start out on, so we had to use hockey skates. To make matters worse, the skates were as dull as could be, I actually took my skates back for a sharper pair. Well anyway, we got our skates on and headed to the ice. HL was very excited... I knew we would have to keep a hold of him the whole time, but I did not realize the effort involved in keeping yourself and a three and a half year old balanced on dull skates. Whew!
